Nature on Steroids Lycanthropy, one of the three super viruses that ravaged the earth. It is is the source of the creatures known commonly as were-creatures. It is unknown exactly what the first animal was that came through the a portal infected with the virus, but it is thought that a wolf was the originator for the wolf form of the lycanthropy virus is the most common and most easily contracted. Almost every known creature is capable of being a host to this virus, however the infection rate varies greatly between the species. The wolf form is known to be the most infectious and easily contracted, where as several species are non-contagious completely and only pass the virus as a hereditary trait to offspring. Contracting the Virus: There are three known ways of contracting lycanthropy. These are the only ways to catch the virus and it is not always contagious. Each species has its own infection level. The first and most common way of infection it to be bitten or scratched by a lycanthrope in their animal form. The Lycan has to be in their animal form, it can not be in it's human form. The second way of infection is hereditary, to be passed the virus by a parent or both parents. If only one parent is a carrier the virus is not always passed, only approximately fifty percent of the time. If both parents are carriers the offspring will ALWAYS contract the virus. The third way of infection, and the rarest and most unusual way, is through direct blood transfer. If a non-infect where to receive a transfusion of blood they will become infected. Also blood to blood contact acts in a similar manner. This is the most sure way of infection as the virus is introduce directly in to the blood system and to the heart and brain. However, rare is it you will find a Lycan willing to perform this willingly upon a person (were tigers being the exception as will be explain in their background).

Werewolves
Werewolves: The most common and well known strand of the lycanthropy virus, werewolves are the most well rounded an versatile of the lycanthrope species. They are not the strongest, fastest, or most powerful of the species. Instead they are an almost perfect combination of all of these. They have a strict hierarchy with in the pack.
Ulfric The ultimate alpha male of the pack. The Ulfric will be replaced by whoever defeats him in combat. In theory it does not have to be a death fight, and the Ulfric can in fact step down, but the new Ulfric will usually kill the old one to prevent a dominance split. Theoretically, female weres may become Ulfric, but female Ulfrics are rare because the strongest males normally have a significant strength advantage over even the strongest females. The term is a derivative of the Norse "ulfr," meaning "wolf."
Lupa Named for Lupa, the mother of Romulus and Remus, the position is reserved for the Ulfric's chosen mate. Although the lupa need not fight for her/his position, the position of most dominant female (or male in the case of female Ulfrics) is determined by conflict. The term is Latin for "she-wolf" and "prostitute."
Freyja A lupa who declares herself independent of the Ulfric and challenges the Ulfric to reclaim her. Any male wolf may win her by having sex with her. The male wolves will do anything, including kill each other, to win her.
Freki and Geri The Ulfric's second and third in command. Named after Odin's wolves of Norse mythology.
Hati and Skoll These are the Ulfric's primary enforcers and bodyguards; their role is unrelated (and their rank is unclear in relation) to that of Bolverk, Baugi, Suttung, and Gunnlod. They must win their right to this position, but are ultimately chosen by the Ulfric based on loyalty. Hati and Skoll rank after Lupa, Freki, and Geri, but are generally alphas. Notably, they do not have to fight the Freki or Geri for their position. They are named after the Jotun's that transformed into wolves in order to chase the Sun and the Moon in Norse mythology.
Bolverk The Bolverk, named after Bolverk of Norse mythology, is the "evil-doer" of the Ulfric. The Bolverk carries out punishments or performs duties the Ulfric find unpalatable but necessary. For example, the Bolverk will handle the execution of pack members who either have or will cause harm to the pack. The Bolverk is allowed three helpers called Baugi, Suttung, and Gunnlod. The titles Baugi and Suttung are based on the two giants Bolverk tricked to get the mead of poetry; the Gunnlod is named after Suttung's daughter, who Bolverk seduced for the mead of poetry.
Eranthe and Eros Erata, and Eros, the god of love or lust. For the werewolves, these roles are held by other werewolves who help the new werewolves learn to control themselves and their physical form during sex, usually to prevent the change from human to wolf during sexual release.
Fenrir An official challenger to the Ulfric, named after Fenrisulfr or Fenrir, the wolf that is destined to kill Odin in Norse mythology.

WereratsWererats: also called ratmen, are humans who can transform themselves into three forms -- human, human-sized ratman, and giant rat. They are sly and evil, and usually inhabit tunnel complexes beneath cities. The wererat's human form tends to be a thin, wiry individual of shorter than average height. The ratman form is somewhat shorter than the human form. The head, torso, and tail are identical to those of a rat. The third form is that of a giant rat 4 feet from nose to rump.

Weretigers Weretigers: Weretigers are one of the rarest species of lycanthropes. This is because of their social standing upon their own strain of the virus. Being given tiger lycanthropy is seen as a reward for a job well done. They think it is a sin to give it to someone not worthy. Tiger lycanthropy is one of the harder-to-catch strains. It is also one of the few that can be inherited, as well as caught. Tigers tend not to announce they are infected and entire families may stay in "the closet." Tigers have forced their clan members to marry other clan members, sometimes to keep the strain among themselves. Most have arranged marriages, they have been known to abduct known tigers, if an arranged marriage cannot be done. They are also a matriarchal (led by a woman/queen) society, unlike most of the other lycanthrope societies which are patriarchal (Led by a male/king).
There are also clans with in the species that have a 'color' base that seems to feature in the weretigers color patterning. Each of the colors have special abilities designated by their color Gold/yellow is earth, White is metal, Red is fire, Black is water, Blue is air. There Whites are the rarest and most powerful, the gold/yellows are the second, then the reds, blacks, and blue in that order. There are also many non-clan tigers with out a color and thus no elemental affinity.

WerehyenasWerehyenas: are humans, usually male, who can transform themselves into hyenalike forms. The human form tends to be tall and sinewy, with long, shaggy hair usually tied back over their neck. Werehyenas tend to be gregarious and charismatic, many possessing a loud, resounding laugh. They are also known to be one of the few matriarchal species with the females leading them instead of the males.

Werelions Werelions are humans able to assume lion form. They are efficient, communal predators, dangerous not only because of their individual skill but also because of their ability to stalk their prey as a single minded group. In their human form, werelions tend to be thin and sinewy, with a whiplash speed and agility. Their voices are deep and melodious. They are always deeply tanned and muscled. In their lion forms they lose all vestiges of humanity, appearing as preternaturally large lions with unusually bright eyes and a deeper roar than most normal lions.
Pride: The name werelions use to refer to their groups. Groups of regular lions are also called prides.
Rex and Regina: A given pride's king is its "Rex," and its queen is its "Regina." ("Rex" is Latin for absolute ruler or king, and "Regina" is Latin for queen.) It is known that some prides are run by their Regina and not their Rex, because all the males want to do is fight and be dominant, while the females worry about the pride as a group.

Werefox
These Lycans are definitely a unique breed. Their human form tends to be lean and wiry. Their beast form stands between 4-6 foot depending on sex. The short fur is a russet-crimson color, with a cream colored belly again this depends of the breed of fox that is infected. They are compact and have the traditional fluffy foxes tail. The Humans that tend to be infected by this kind of lycan tend to be thieves and con artists that seem to fit into the mind set of the fox' ways.

Werebears These Lycan are huge in stature. Ranging in beast form from 6-9 feet in height depending on the breed of Bear, the fur color also depends on the breed. These well muscled lycan make the ripped body builders look small in stature. Their temperaments can very from laid back and playful to down right deadly. The beast form resembles a furred Arnold Schwarzenegger with a bear head and claws that range from 3-8 inches in length and their jaws alone can bite through 1 inch steel. The leas

Weresnakes There are three classifications of were snake. Vipers, constrictors, and none harmful. Vipers include rattle snakes, cotton mouths, asps and any snake that has a poisonous bite, Constrictors are consisted of anaconda's, pythons and any that uses its body to crush the breath and bones of its prey. None harmful are such as garter snakes, mole snakes, racers, your basic bug eater breeds. As with Most lycans the size and shape of the beast form varies with the breed of snake. For the most part they look like a serpent with arms and the chest of a homid or human. Size can very from 4 foot for a none harmful male to 12 foot for a anaconda Female. The fangs on the Viper class can very in size from 2 inches to 6 in the gaboon which has the largest fangs in the snake kingdom even in the natural form. On the constrictor class the arms and body are much like iron bars of muscle, used to crush and constrict. Remember with snakes it is the female who is the largest of the sexes.
Leaders are called Kadra (female) and Kashyapa (male). They have the ability to have offspring like mammals or like reptiles.

Swanmanes/WereswansThe ability to take the shape of a swan is a hereditary condition not related to lycanthropy, which seems limited to predators. Changing shape is not tied to the cycle of the moon, and does not appear to interfere with carrying children to term during pregnancy. Swanmanes are almost exclusively female. The few male exceptions (known as Drakes) are born specifically to the task of rulership over the swanmanes, although their level of power varies. Despite the number of living drakes, only one rules over the swanmanes at a time. Power varies among the swanmanes as well; there are occasionally Swan Queens. This kind of shapeshifting is almost certainly a genetic curse passed through the generations. Swanmanes are generally dismissed as unimportant by the shapeshifter community, except as food (metaphysical or otherwise). Drakes (and possibly the manes, although the later is unknown) have unusually long lives, even for shape shifters.
Swanmanes can not infect others. The origins of swanmanes is unknown, but thought to have originated as a curse by an extremely powerful witch.
